Smoke-Fired Lunar Vessel

Smoke-Fired Lunar Vessel
Earthenware, Terra Sigillata, Faux Gold
2026
Approx. 4.5”H x 6”W
This hand built lunar vessel is finished with terra sigillata and smoke fired. During the firing process, carbon from the smoke is absorbed into the clay, creating the deep black surface and subtle variations in tone.
The shoulder of the vessel is decorated with a hand-painted geometric band of metallic gold. The contrast between the burnished black surface and gold detailing highlights the vessel’s rounded lunar form.
Each firing produces unique variations in color and surface, making every piece one of a kind. Firing in this way does not bring the clay to a high enough temperature to vitrify, therefore, these smoke fired items are not food safe or water tight and should be used for decorative purposes only.
